Wednesday Tidings

Sharing is caring!

Greetings Church,

Last night, hundreds of cars drove in funeral procession from Dennis to Cape Cod Community College.  Most of the cars were marked in someway with black, in memory of George Floyd and honoring all black lives. Police in both Dennis and Barnstable worked to keep everyone safe and together.  It was powerful to see people on an overpass, or in a parking lot, or on campus waving, with signs, showing their support.

How many of us, even as we gathered, wished that we could gather in some different way, together on a community green?  And yet, in this time, this was the safest way for many to speak up and out for justice.  It was a way to be with people, united in hope and desire for justice.  We’re finding new ways to be community, new ways to be church, new ways to love our neighbor, to follow Jesus, and resist evil in whatever form it presents itself.

In the midst of the Pandemic, in the midst of a new awakening to racial injustice, in the midst of so much uncertainty, I long to be with you.  Even as I celebrate the creativity and resiliency of our community to find new ways to connect, I grieve for what was.   I miss seeing your faces each Sunday, hearing your stories, singing together.  I miss gathering without masks and distance.   And yet, we are called to BE the church in a new way, out of our love for one another.  We are called to discover new ways and remember old ways of connecting, engaging, serving, and resisting.  We remain Together in Christ…Committed to Serve.

Peace,

Heather

Please submit prayer requests to Pastor Heather, pastorheather@umcchurches.org and 774.994.3645.

Presence (even if we cannot be physically together, we can connect)

Drive Through Prayer: Monday, June 15, 9am-12pm, 5-7pm (by appointment)

Please call, text or email to set up a time for a 15 minute visit and prayer.

Do you need someone to talk to, or someone to pray with/for you? Pastoral Care doesn’t have to be in case of emergency or crisis. Rather it’s simply an opportunity to share what’s going on in your life (good, bad, or uncertain) and pray together.  It can be as informal as a text, “please pray for…” or a phone call.  Please don’t assume I’m too busy.  Hearing your stories and praying with you is absolutely my job, and it’s an honor to do it.  I’m now able to do porch visits, as well as available by phone and text (774.994.3645), email (pastorheather@umcchurches.org) and zoom.    –Pastor Heather

3pm – Wednesday Afternoon Check-in: Notice the good and share prayer concerns too.

Gifts

Please no gifts of thrift, yard sale, or rummage items.  Please leave nothing at the church, annex, nor Rainbow’s End.  At this time we cannot accept them and do not have the volunteers on our campus to sort and store them appropriately.  We will advertise very publicly when we are ready for these items. Thank you for your generosity and patience.

Please continue to submit pledges via our online giving portal, and through the mail.  Your generosity is supporting meaningful mission and ministry in our community!

Service and Witness

Phone a Friend:  Who do you know that needs good news?  Who do you know that’s feeling isolated and alone?  Who haven’t you heard from since before March 2020.  Reach out.  Pick up the phone and help them connect to our community of faith.  Invite them to our one of our Zoom gatherings.  Invite them to a worship watch party.    Share a link to our worship or devotionals on your facebook page.

Miracle Kitchen: Next date, July 7

We’re looking for six volunteers to make 10 bag lunches (total of 60 lunches needed.) 1 bag lunch= 2 sandwiches, juice box or something to drink, and fruit and/or dessert (brownies are very popular).  Sandwiches must be wrapped individually.   Please place in small paper bag and label the outside of the bag with the type of sandwich inside.  Condiments are provided at the Salvation Army.  If two people would like to partner and divide the task, that would be fine. Example: one makes the sandwiches and provides the napkin. The other prepares the dessert and/or fruit, plus drink. If two people partner, Gail would appreciate if the lunches were combined before she collects and distribute to the Salvation Army.

Any questions? Gail Bennett, (508) 420-7978.
Drop off Tuesday, July 7:  UMC Osterville parking lot (not inside the church),  57 Pond St,  9:50-10:10am,or the Salvation Army no later than 10:30.
