Weekly Green Tip

In the “Pitfalls of Plastic” article in the Cape Cod Times

Laura Ludwig from the Center for Coastal Studies reported that plastics found in plankton travels throughout the food chain.  These microplastics contain toxic substances used in their manufacturing.

A 2018 study from the Food, Health & Environment Journal indicates the possible impact of this exposure in our food stream is inflammation, disruption of stomach bacteria, and may affect immune and cellular health. Steps to reduce single-use plastic is to use your own water bottle, bring your own shopping bags, refuse a straw, buy unpackaged fruits,  and vegetables, and choose paper gum and candy wraps.
